 Reshad and Sasha cooperate in extracting Jedao from the crowd and interviewing him about the connection between Remi and Jedao's enemy Kujen. Their teamwork is effective, though Reshad finds some of Sasha's questions about ways to attack Kujen troubling; this is part of a pattern in which Sasha's habit of intellectualizing responses to danger leads her to appear unexpectedly threatening. Though they are slowly becoming more relaxed around each other, Reshad and Sasha consistently differ in their assessments of which emotional responses are safe to share. Sasha thanks Sulen in turn, and asks Remi, "What are your questions for us?" He first asks, "Do you plan on confronting this immortal Nirai?" Reshad says, "Confront him? It'd be foolhardy without more information." After a hesitation, Remi adds, "What will you do if the moths you free don't want to cooperate with the rebellion?" Sasha says, "My goal is to free all of the moths, though I don't know ''when'' that will be possible. Given the stickiness of timelines, we might have to move late, as late as Reshad's timeline even, in order to effect permanent change. The moths do not need to like us; I doubt they will like the heptarchate, or hexarchate, any better. But my first priority must be survival. We know that Kujen--as he names himself--is interested in us. I do not wish to confront him directly, but I would like to have defenses against him."
