Lokwors (often referred to by the slang term lokkis) are portable communication devices. They can send and receive sound alerts, voice, or text messages; some lokwors have limited graphics capabilities.
The underlying technology is analogous to radio. In particular, anyone with an appropriate receiver and within the appropriate range can detect a signal sent through a lokwor, although of course the signal may be encrypted.
Lokwors are favored by the Kel and may be an invariant technology.

The Wasp has a set of Kel lokwors. In addition to sending messages, these can interface with the grid on the Wasp, although the connection is slow compared to a typical tablet or lattice connection.
